How do you future proof your career?
An adventure into 5,233% MarTech growth with the Essentials of Marketing Technology course and Carlos Doughty the Founder of MarTech Alliance
Yesterday I posted on LinkedIn about the importance of Marketing Technology. Now it is time to put my money where my mouth is. Would you join me on a 6 week journey diving into MarTech?
What if I paid for a £1,250 course for you?
I’m signing up for the MarTech Alliance’s Essentials of Marketing Technology Course. I want to build a cohort of awesome engaged classmates so I’m offering to pay for one LinkedIn contact to take the course with me!*
This is the MarTech landscape over 10 years:
Here is why I’m all in for MarTech Alliance
The trainer and founder Carlos Doughty is one of the smartest marketers I know. His MarTech Alliance events consistently attract deep thinkers and doers like Darrell Alfonso, Scott Brinker, Deon Pillay, Scott Galloway, Grace Beverly, my hero Seth Godin and world-class brands.
Learning is not about the big names, it is personal
In 2013, my friends Neel and Ralph persuaded me to take a coding course at General Assembly that changed my life. The course gave me the skills and confidence to move on from 12 years and a management role in financial publishing to join as an quota-carrying, individual contributor role with a US FinTech.
Be vertical-agnostic
In 2018, I made a personal decision to move to France to start my family. Again the course gave me the skills and knowledge to succeed as employee number 35 in a high-growth French SaaS startup in the photography vertical. Overnight, I switched from clients like Bank of America, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley to signing Uber Eats and Google and getting promoted to Head of Enterprise Sales.
At each step, my tech knowledge gave me an opportunity to prove myself in verticals and situations where I didn’t have previous experience.
Deeper appreciation for tech and APIs
Although the GA course was about developers, I didn’t set out to become one. I’d like to say on the record that I’d be a terrible developer. However the course gave me an understanding and respect for the crazy hard craft of creating lightning fast websites, that fit every size screen, all over the world!
Become a better sales professional
The knowledge I gained made me a better sales professional. It improved my advice to clients, the companies I choose to work with and continues to help me anticipate product, market and implementation challenges and opportunities.
My path hasn’t been a straight line, yet looking back it is clear the General Assembly course paved the way for my move to France, a wonderful wife and 2 charming boys. If this isn’t worth investing in I don’t know what is!
Next Step: Essentials of Marketing Technology
MarTech is an incredibly fast moving space with technology and offerings changing quickly. The course provides a clear mapping of the latest technology and how the new pieces fit together. I’ve seen first hand the benefit of keeping up to date on technology and exchanging with peers. I’m excited to dive into it!
The Essentials of Marketing Technology Course means sacrificing some evenings from Feb 15 through March 31, 2022, which frankly is not the sunniest time of year. It means investing £1,250. It means getting out of my comfort zone. These are tiny sacrifices compared with the impact.
All life’s journeys are more fun alongside friends, which prompted me to write this post. Will you join me on this personal and professional journey?
Send me a direct message on LinkedIn if you’re interested!
PS Shout out to the General Assembly UK super star crew: Matt Cynaman, Paul Connor, Felix Cohen, Stevan Popovic, Emma Walker, Tatiana Kachkovsky, Luke Robertson, Simon Graffy, Sofia Quintero, Nakul Singh. and a huge thank you to Neel and Ralph for pushing me out of my comfort zone. I wouldn’t be here without you!
